God's Perfect Timing

“For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter, though a person may be weighed down by misery.” (Ecclesiastes 8:6)

There are so many trials in this world that we have to go through. This life is filled with hardships, struggles, and obstacles to overcome. Sometimes it is hard to get through each day without feeling like everything is going wrong and spiraling out of control.

Have you ever gone through a hardship where you wondered where God was, and wondered why He wasn't fixing everything that was wrong? Wondering why He allows good things to happen to others, but seems to forget about you in the matter? We've all been there. We pray and pray for things to turn around, or for things to happen, and feel as if God isn't listening. But the thing is, God’s blessings and answers don't just happen over night. We tend to forget that God’s timing is perfect.

A few years ago, I started writing down literally every prayer request and blessing from each day. For the first few weeks, it just felt good to write down my thoughts on paper and journal what God had done in my life that day. After a few months of this habit, I started to notice a trend: answered prayers. I would flip through the pages of my “notes” to God and connect the dots. Whether God made things turn out perfectly, or made me go through that trial to gain something, everything always ended up okay in His timing.

For example, in July of 2015, I wanted to start a blog about everything God was doing in my life. I wrote this down, praying to God to tell me if this was a good idea or not, asking if I should move forward with this blog.  Although I had this yearning to start this adventure, and kept praying about it, I kept feeling a hesitation and feeling telling me to wait it out. I didn't know if this was God’s hand telling me to wait, or the enemy discouraging me from furthering God’s kingdom. So, I waited.

This past May, I finally felt the push to start my own blog. The next day, I went to work and told my coworker all about my new blog, and couldn't contain my excitement! That night, she sent me a link to a new post about how Whole Magazine Teens was looking for new writers. I followed the application process, and 2 months later, here I am!

If I had not waited to start my blog, I would have never had an opportunity to tell my coworker about my blog, and she would have never sent me the link to the post. If I had started my blog in 2015, I would not be writing weekly devotions for Whole Magazine Teens. God kept His gentle hand on me, encouraging me to hold off, and I couldn't be more thankful for His answer. Although it took time, my prayer was answered, and once again, God worked His magic in perfect timing.

I’m not saying that just because you write your prayers down that all your troubles will be fixed, but this helps to be able to trust in Him, and be able to go back and witness your prayers come to life.

I would highly suggest starting to write down your worries and troubles on paper, and simply waiting patiently to hear God’s whisper. It is so fascinating to look back and realize that the hands of God were working through it all.

Lord, help me trust your timing and know that you are always near. You will never leave and I thank you so much for that. Thank you for all the things you have done, are doing, and will do.

Have there been times where you have wondered why God is not answering your prayers?
What prayer are you praying that you wish God would answer sooner?
What can you do to ensure that you are listening to God’s answers?
