Readily Equipped

“I planted the seeds in your heart, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. The one who plants and the one who waters work together for the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.” (1 Corinthians 3:68)

There are certain things that I am just not equipped to do. As a meek, little high school girl, I am definitely not built to be a football player. That’s just something I will never be good at. I’m sure you can think of things that you don’t quite feel equipped or adequate to do.

Sometimes you may not feel equipped to share the gospel. I know I definitely have moments where I feel like God can’t use me for His greater purpose. At times, my confidence is utterly shaken and I feel like there will always be someone better or someone more equipped to serve the Lord than me.

Actually, I felt that way right before writing this devotional. My morale was low and I believed that I had nothing worthwhile to say. I didn’t feel equipped.

But then I remembered something. I recalled a missions trip I took about a month and a half ago to an amazing nation called Haiti. During my time there, God taught me that if I just take a step of faith to serve Him, He will do the rest.

I may not see the fruit right away, or maybe not at all on this side of heaven, but God will use me to plant seeds in other’s hearts. Even during times when I don’t feel equipped for the job, if I’m faithful to do what God is calling me to do, He will use it for His glory.

I find it so encouraging that God wants to use me. He thinks that I’m good enough to use in His plan to bring the lost back to Him. He created me for a purpose that only I could fulfill on this earth.

Because of this, I can have confidence in knowing that the works I do for Him are not in vain. I am good enough in Him and I am valuable to Christ. I don’t have to rely on my own strength, because God is the one who equips me and grows the seeds I plant.

“What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.”

Father, thank You for equipping me to serve You. I’m so grateful that I don’t have to try to do everything in my own strength, because my strength is so fleeting. Use me for Your will. Whenever I feel unequipped, show me that I am so valuable to You and that You are using me for a purpose only I could fulfill. Thank You for including me in Your amazing plan to bring the lost back to You. Help me to be faithful to Your callings in my life so that You can use me to show others Your love. I ask that You would give me unshakable confidence and courage that can only come from You. Thank You for being so good to me. Amen.

What steps of faith is God calling you to?
How can you plant seeds in other’s hearts?
Do you find yourself often trusting in God or trusting in your own strength? Where would you say your confidence come from?
